Precondition

Possibility to choose between:

• Import Raster Image
• Import ESRI (TM) Shapefile
• Add Web Map Service (WMS) Layer

Import

Import Raster Image

• Background data import
• Background map --> browse (supported image formats: *.tif, *.img, *.png)
• Select coordinate system
• Finish

• Map window: raster visible?

Import ESRI (TM) Shapefile

• Background data import
• Import ESRI (TM) Shapefile
• Next
• Browse for data, e.g. 'gemeindegrenzen.shp' (example shapefile necessay for testing)
• Select coordinate system, e.g. DHDN/3-degree Gauss-Kruger zone 3
• Finish

• Map window: polygon visible? (grey transparent)

Add Web Map Service (WMS) Layer

• Background data import
• Enter URL or choose one of your favorites (e.g. http://geodaten.service24.rlp.de/cgi-bin/freetop.cgi?)
• Select one of the available themes and click 'add theme to map'
• Finish

• Map window: WMS-Service visible?
